Hand carved leather art from our family to yours!!
Jennifer’s grandfather, Darwin Ohlerking, served in in the Air Force and was one of the most renowned leather artist of his time. He was well known for his leather works, which included purses, wallets, key chains, and carved leather nature scenes. Darwin not only created leather works, but he also helped teach others the trade and contributed to several leather art publications throughout his career.
Darwin was known, in particular, for his exquisite attention to detail and his unbridled pursuit of perfection…and his artwork is truly one of a kind!
Starting each piece with a blank leather canvas and some small hand-held tools, he meticulously worked the leather to prepare & present wonderful works of art. Words cannot describe the amount of detail he carved into each piece…each swipe of the tool adding detail to the canvas until his vision was made complete.
Sadly, we lost Darwin several years ago to cancer, but his artwork has been in circulation and we have collected several pieces that we can now offer to you and your family. We’ll be working to catalog all of Darwin’s work over the next several months (maybe years), and we’ll be adding pieces to the website as we go.
In the meantime, stop by our booth at the local Farmer’s Market and check out the pieces we’ll have on display.
